Moss (born February 13th, 1977) is an ex- American footballer. He was a player
for the Minnesota Vikings (Oak Raiders), New England Patriots (New England
Patriots), Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Titans), and the San Francisco 49ers in
the National Football League. Widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver of
all time together with Jerry Rice, he holds the NFL single-season record for
touchdown receptions (23 in 2007) and the NFL single-season record for touchdown
receptions for rookies (17 in 1998) and is ranked second in the NFL all-time
regular season touchdown reception list, with 156. Moss is famous for his
ability to secure contested catches. The term "mossed", which is now
a part of the football vocabulary, became popularized due to this.
Post-football, he began working with ESPN as an analyst in its studios for the
Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown programs. Moss was born in
Rand, West Virginia. Moss was a student at DuPont High School. This was one of
the two schools that were later amalgamated to form Riverside High School. He
was a star in basketball, football and baseball. Randy was also a part of the
school's debate team. Moss was a DuPont Panthers' football player who led them
to back-toback state championshipsin 1992 and 1993. His star position was wide
receiver. However, Moss also played safety for free in punted kickoffs, as well
as was the team's punter as well as kicker. In 1994, he was honored with the
Kennedy Award as the West Virginia Football Player of the Year. Parade magazine
named him to their All-American high school football teams in 1995. In 2009
they named him one of the 50 most outstanding high school football players of
all-time.
