Ronny Chieng

and comedian. Chieng is currently a senior reporter on The Daily Show on Comedy
Central and creator and star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student
which began airing on ABC (Australia) as well as Comedy Central Asia in 2017.
Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to a Malaysian Chinese family. From
1989 until 1994, he resided in Manchester in New Hampshire. Chieng appeared with
Trevor Noah in 2013 at an event for comedy in Melbourne, Australia. Two years
later Chieng was selected to be a candidate for the correspondent position for
The Daily Show, which Noah hosts. In July 2016 Chieng was selected as one of
the top 10 comics you should watch by Variety In October of that year, Chieng
appeared on The Daily Show to give his opinion on a Jesse Watters Fox News
segment deemed by many as racist. Chieng expressed his opinion with a lot of
expletive regarding the segment on Fox News, the conservative network. He also
visited New York City's Chinatown where Watters joked about residents. The
video became viral and received media coverage in the Washington Post and

Scout. He has not been able to acquire citizenship or permanent residence
status in Australia despite living in Australia for ten years. In the year 2018
Chieng joked that he was negative on the Daily Show However, he later clarified
in an interview that he was "100 percent unafraid of dogs".
